Join the Board

Let’s build #moretrailsclosetohome

Thank you for being interested in serving on the Board of Directors of THOR. Since 1996, we have provided trail advocacy, education, and infrastructure for Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa.

THOR Board Member Elections will occur on November 19, 2023, at the THOR Annual Member Meeting. Candidates must have a current THOR Membership and attend this meeting.

Our mission to serve over 2,000,000 people with access to the trail experience is guided by our vision and our values of Community, Equity, Stewardship, and Partnerships.

What does it mean to serve on the Board of Directors?

Board Members believe in the THOR’s vision, mission, and values and act responsibly and prudently to help the organization strategically and operationally do its best work while holding the organization accountable to THOR Members and the general public.

This article digs more into how a non-profit Board of Directors works.

  • Attend at least 75% of Board Meetings. The Board of Directors has 4 Quarterly Meetings per Year and, occasionally, Supplimental Meetings.

  • Interpret our member’s needs and values to the organization, speak out for their interests, and hold the organization accountable on their behalf.

  • Share THOR’s vision and values with the community, represent the organization, and act as a spokesperson.

  • Work in good faith with staff and other board members as partners toward achieving our goals.

  • Stay informed about what's going on in the organization on a weekly cadence.

  • Excuse themselves from discussions and votes in which there is a conflict of interest.

  • Support and participate in committees and fundraising.
